From Personal Struggle to Global Pathway

VERUM was born from a moment many families know too well. That heartbreak when a top-level academy doesn’t see your potential.

Our founders watched their own son, a committed and talented player, miss out on a critical MLS academy opportunity. That disappointment didn’t stop them. Instead, it became their motivation to find a better pathway, one that wasn’t based on luck, chance, or one single tryout.

Their decision to take their son to Europe changed everything. They found a style of football that moved faster, demanded more, and developed more complete players and they knew they had to build a system like this for others.

Our Story

a wife and husband team who lived this journey with their own son.

Our son started playing football at five years old. Like so many boys, the love for the game grew with him, and by 13, he was playing for an MLS Next team in Orlando, Florida. The dream felt real. It was within reach. Then came the tryout.

The club announced an academy trial. We assumed it was for the boys already in the system, a natural progression. Instead, over 200 players were invited from all clubs and academies in Central Florida. Only four or five would be chosen to join the Pro Club U15 academy. Our son wasn’t one of them. Neither was his friend, a boy who had played alongside him for eight years.

For a 14-year-old with a dream, that’s more than disappointment, it’s confusion and doubt about what comes next.
When our sons didn’t make the Pro Club U15 academy team, many people around us offered the same suggestions: try another local club or go to a different academy nearby.

But none of those felt right. Instead, he looked at us and said something simple but powerful: “If I go to another local team, it feels like I’m going backwards.” And he was right. He had already played at a high level and needed something that truly challenged him.

So we did something most families never do: We packed our bags and took him to Europe.

At first, we explored cities with legendary football history, Barcelona, London, Manchester, but something didn’t feel right. Then we arrived in Portugal… and everything changed. It was here that we found the environment, the coaching, and the football culture our son needed to grow.
Our son and his friend are 17 years old, competing for the Sub-18 team in the 1ra Division Distrital, just one step below Portugal’s 2nd national division.

We have watched them transform. The training intensity, the tactical demands, the speed of play, the competitiveness of every single session, it’s unlike anything we saw in the U.S. All coaches are UEFA licensed (mandatory). The players are aggressive in the right way. The game is faster, smarter, and more demanding. It’s a different education entirely.

Living in Portugal for three years has given us more than our son’s growth. It has given us access. We have built genuine, trusted alliances with clubs across Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and South America.
We created VERUM because every family facing that moment of “what’s next?” deserves a clear, honest, and professional answer. We experienced the confusion, the opaque tryouts, and the lack of direction firsthand. Now, we provide the opposite.

VERUM is the pathway we needed but couldn’t find. We’ve turned our personal experience and leap of faith into a structured, transparent journey for all those parents and players looking for an opportunity.

Through our direct network, we provide managed access to real trials and professional contracts or guide players toward U.S. university scholarships.

Frequently Asked Questions

VERUM is not a single event or camp. It is a long-term development and opportunity platform that adapts as the athlete grows. From high level development to international exposure, professional access, or university placement, we focus on building a sustainable football and life pathway.
Results depend on the athlete’s commitment, consistency, and level. VERUM provides access, structure, and guidance. Some players progress to professional environments, others secure scholarships, and many gain valuable international experience and personal growth. Our focus is on realistic progress, not empty promises.
Player safety is a top priority. When athletes travel or train internationally, VERUM works only with verified clubs, trusted partners, and supervised environments. Players receive guidance on training load, recovery, housing, and daily routines. Parents are kept informed throughout the process.
VERUM works with players that are at an Intermediate and Advanced levels. Also, all athletes must show commitment, coachability, and work ethic. Some programs focus on development, while others require a higher competitive level. If a player is not ready for a specific opportunity, we are honest and provide a clear development plan instead.
Every athlete starts with an individual evaluation. We assess football level, age, maturity, academic profile, and long-term goals. Based on that information, we recommend the most appropriate pathway, not the most expensive one. This ensures families invest in the right step at the right time. Most professional opportunities are evaluated between ages 16 and 23, though exceptions exist and we can go up to 28. VERUM assesses physical maturity, game understanding, and readiness before recommending this path. If a player is not ready, we focus on development and preparation rather than rushing the process.
